January 19th, 2020 – Who you calling crazy?

This song is an excellent mixture of club and trance, pop and R&B with a little bit of soul added in for good measure. The lyrics are a hazy trip through the world with concepts of people coming together, breaking apart and becoming delirious and angry with the singer wondering if to keep it all together, perhaps we all need to be a little bit off.

This song does not match any of the profiles I normal look for in a playlist selection. But I feel that the artist’s voice draws me in because it’s a little different. Matching that up with a slick, heavy drum beat through a synth/trance track with a slight nod to repeated guitar power chord strums. I think it’s a cool driving tune.

Seal – “Crazy”

Seal literally came out of nowhere. A musician who can sing, play guitar, bass and keyboards, he simply handed a demo tape to UK club DJ and producer Adamski and the rest is history. It probably wasn’t as simple as all that, truth be told, but suffice it to say that it didn’t take long for Seal to burst onto the scene and take the music industry by storm. The album “Seal” was released in 1991 and “Crazy” charted well, won Seal a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal, an Ivor Novello award, and the video was nominated in multiple categories for MTV music awards.

I really enjoy this song and when I began my Red Road Radio Show back in 2014, I chose this song as the shows closing theme. It tied into the content of the news I was delivering and how it made me feel after really digging into the issues of the day. It kind of left me thinking that the World was mad and not interested in changing in the least. Call me crazy.

~Lew Hastings

In a church, by the face
He talks about the people going under

Only child know

A man decides after seventy years
That what he goes there for, is to unlock the door
While those around him criticize and sleep
And through a fractal on a breaking wall
I see you my friend, and touch your face again
Miracles will happen as we trip

But we’re never gonna survive, unless
We get a little crazy
No we’re never gonna survive, unless
We are a little crazy

Crazy yellow people walking through my head
One of them’s got a gun, to shoot the other one
And yet together they were friends at school
Ohh, get it, get it, get it, get it no no

If all were there when we first took the pill
Then maybe, then maybe, then maybe, then maybe
Miracles will happen as we speakBut we’re never gonna survive unless
We get a little crazy
No we’re never gonna survive unless
We are a little crazy
No no, never survive, unless we get a little bit

Oh, a little bit
Oh, a little bit

A man decides to go along after seventy years

Oh darlin’
In a sky full of people, only some want to fly
Isn’t that crazy
In a world full of people, only some want to fly
Isn’t that crazy, crazy
In a heaven of people there’s only some want to fly
Ain’t that crazy
Oh babe, oh darlin’
In a world full of people there’s only some want to fly
Isn’t that crazy, isn’t that crazy, isn’t that crazy, isn’t that crazy

But were never gonna survive unless, we get a little crazy
No were never gonna to survive unless we are a little
But were never gonna survive unless, we get a little crazy
No were never gonna to survive unless, we are a little, crazy
No no, never survive unless, we get a little bit

Someday, only child know

Them things
The size of which you’ve never known before

They’ll break it

And then you see things
The size of which youve never known before

Someday…
Someway…
